Mental health

Over half of young people (between 16 and 25) in the Netherlands struggle with mental health issues, and more than 75% of those issues develop before the age of 25. Support figures  – such as teachers, coaches, family members, or neighbours – can play a crucial role in recognizing issues early on.

De Checkers (those who check) is a free online tool developed by MIND Us that empowers support figures to learn and listen, ask the right questions, and offer help and support. Developed for and with young people, and in collaboration with organisations such as GGD Amsterdam and the Municipality of Utrecht, De Checkers offers an accessible and relevant approach to youth mental health support.

Identity and toolkit

Multitude was asked to develop an identity for both the tool and campaign materials. The concept is based on the idea of signals: scanning, checking, recognizing, receiving, sending and forwarding. This idea was translated to a small but flexible design toolkit consisting of custom logo and lettering, graphic elements and an emoji generator.

The identity needed to stand on its own, but also connect loosely to MIND Us. It connects in terms of colour, and draws inspiration from the rough, painted/stencil like typeface used in their identity. Using stencil lettering as point of departure, combined with the notion of something friendly yet tough, solid and reliable, the custom logo was drawn first. This was expanded into a visual language connecting both shapes (the signals) and letterforms. Lettering was used for initial campagin puposes, and them finally developed into a small custom font.

In collaboration with Aidan Wyber (concept and programming).
