SOCIOLOGIST, ANTHROPOLOGIST AND POET
Dick Herweg (Bergisch Gladbach 1945 – Amsterdam 2018) was a sociologist and anthropologist, and also wrote poetry; imaginative, absurdist, free-form observations. Some of his poems were published and distributed here and there (in De Groene Amsterdammer for example) but with his work taking up most of his time, he never really manifested himself as a poet. After being diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2018, his family decided to publish a selection of his poems in the collection ‘Lavender and rosemary and/or the surprise is in the repetition’.
JAZZ AND/OR POETRY
In November 2018 a concert was organized by Herweg’s son, pianist and composer Daan Herweg and his friends. During the concert the book was presented and a selection of poems recited by Oukje den Hollander, combined with improvised music by a band of all-star jazz musicians from the Dutch jazz scene.
To link the concert with the book, the dust jacket folds out and becomes the concert poster. Jazz and/or poetry. Concert flyer designed for both e-mail and print. The book is published and distributed by Key Element Publishing and can be ordered here. For each copy sold €2.50 is donated to the Alzheimer Nederland foundation.
